Age: Qing Dynasty

Description: A particularly fine ornament carved in white jade to depict a duck and millet branch. The duck shown poised with head turned back over its body and grasping a sprig of millet in its mouth. The duck decorated with symbols and archaic designs showing particular care and skill in carving and polishing. The stone is of a very fine and even white tone with russet highlights to both sides indicating the entire form is inspired by the natural form of the original jade pebble with minimal reduction of material during the carving.

Size: 2 1/4", 5.70cm.

Provenance: From a Pennsylvania Collection acquired by the present owner, a Montreal jade collector around 2010.
