A LACQUER MINIATURE KAGO (PALANQUIN)Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)The miniature palanquin with gilt-metal fittings, some of which are chased and incised with foliate designs on a ring-punched ground, and finely lacquered with imitation-rattan as well as gold hiramaki-e karakusa and scroll on roiro. Three sides with a sliding door, each with barred window, opening to reveal the interior with papered sides decorated with silver flakes, two of the windows with silk and bamboo blinds.
