A TIBETAN BRONZE 'VAJRADAKA' HEAD19th / 20th Century十九或二十世紀 銅「天福之面」面具Cast with an open mouth exposing fangs and piercing eyes beneath bushy eyebrows, crowned with a five-lobed tiara of skulls set with a turquoise finial and a pair of turquoise earrings,16cm high, 632g-PROVENANCE:Property of a French Private Collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s來源:法國私人收藏,1960-1980年代在香港組成Note: Vajradaka is a deity of purification from Vajradaka Tantra, belonging to the larger category of the Chakrasamvara Cycle of Tantras. These vessels are usually originally in two parts: the top part, formed as the deity Vajradaka with open mouth, would sit atop a censer. Burning charcoal is placed into the base of the vessel, and whilst reciting purification mantras the practitioner drops sesame seeds onto the hot embers.
