An Italian tin-glazed faience charger, late 19th century, decorated to the well with a mythological procession centred by a partially clothed female figure in a chariot drawn by four white horses, attended by cherubs and a female figure holding aloft a shining star, with musicians and dancing female figures to the foreground and an angel holding a flaming torch above, the procession set against an Italian coastal landscape with Classical ruins and a church, the well surrounded with a double geometric border, the rim decorated with a border consisting of motifs of cherubim, mythological animals, masks, and scrolling foliage, with two cherubs presenting an armorial to the bottom, signed G. Pierelli and dated 1896 to the lower left border, 40cm diameter ( charged on Hammer price)Condition Report: This charger evidently did not go through the manufacturing process without flaws. There are large glazing flaws to the well especially to the left side, heavy pitting throughout and considerable losses of glaze to the rim and border, some small losses to the underside footrim.
