A GRECO-BACTRIAN GEMSTONE AND GOLD PENDANTGreco-Bactrian Kingdom, c. 3rd – 2nd century BC. Consisting of a drop-shaped pale orange agate stone set in a gold pendant, suspending two garnet beads with leaf-shaped gold terminations, surmounted by a later top piece with a tiny turquoise tubular bead and a metal bead. Alloy composition analysis: Gold 20% karat. Silver 10.8% purity. The pendant was tested by the Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, the agate with a small notch. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
