作者简介：赵石，初名鸿，字石农，号慧僧。后来因非常喜爱封泥古朴趣味，改号“古泥”。晚年号石道人、泥道人。由于对吴昌硕的崇拜，名其室曰“拜缶庐”。江苏常熟人。幼失慈母，只读过三年私塾，少为药店学徒，三年无所成。愤极奔姑苏寒山寺，欲削发为僧，未为所纳。不得已，乃返其父药肆工作。业余奋发习书练刻，每天夜半即起临池苦练，奉同乡缶老弟子李钟(字虞章)为师，得其指引，乃窥门径。后从吴昌硕学篆刻。
