After Guillaume Scrots, Dutch fl.1537-1553- Portrait of King Edward VI; oil on canvas, inscribed ‘Edward 6th’ on the reverse, 30 x 23.2 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is painted after a portrait by Scrots, a painter to the Tudor court. Scrots became the King's Painter to Henry VIII (1491-1547), after Hans Holbein (1497/8-1543), and then to Edward VI (1537-1553). This painting is an almost identical to another copy after Scrots held in the UK's National Trust [NT 1175978], and diverges slightly from the various original full-length versions produced by Scrots, including those held in the Musée du Louvre, Paris [RF 561] and in the UK's Royal Collection [RCIN 405751].
