Florence le Marchant Tupper, British, late 19th to early 20th century- Lady at a window, with warriors in armour below; pen, black, and brown ink heightened with white on paper, inscribed with artist's name to the mount (verso), 38.7 x 21.3 cm. (unframed/mounted). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Florence le Marchant Tupper was the daughter of Lieutenant-General Sir Gaspard le Marchant Tupper (1826–1906), who was a prominent amateur artist, having been trained in topographical drawing at Sandhurst. It has been suggested that Florence was the anonymous female donor of £40,000 to the National Gallery in 1909, a sum which enabled their acquisition of the portrait of Christina of Denmark, Duchess of Milan by Hans Holbein (1497/8-1543).
