A THANGKA FRAGMENT DEPICTING VAJRAPANI, TIBET, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The wrathful deity stands in pratyalidhasana on a prostrated figure who wears a helmet and spotted robe. The fierce god holds a vajra aloft in his right hand and his left holds mala beads, his ferocious face is surmounted by fiery hair and a skull tiara. He wears a belt suspending heads, a snake draped around his neck, and tiger skin. He is backed by a mandorla of stylized flames, and the upper register preserves part of the yellow lotus base of this Thangka’s once primary figure.


Provenance:
London trade, formerly in a private estate.

Condition:
Old wear, creasing, soiling, losses, trimming and tears. Laid down professionally. Presenting exceptionally well given its fragmentary nature. The frame in good condition with minor wear and small scratches. Great effort was made to preserve and display this fragment of what was likely once a rather large Thangka.

西藏十六至十七世紀金剛手菩薩唐卡


布面膠彩描金，描金木框。金剛手菩薩呈忿怒相，髮絲飄揚，戴五葉冠飾。三目睜視，齜牙捲舌。身軀袒露，肌體壯碩，佩戴釧鐲等各種飾物。帔帛自兩肩繞臂而下。右手高舉金剛杵，左手執念珠，腰圍虎皮裙，展立姿態站於蓮花座上。後有光背。

品相：
磨損、摺痕、污漬、修剪和撕裂。框架狀況良好，有輕微磨損和小劃痕。為了保存和展示這幅可能曾經相當大的唐卡的殘片，我們付出了巨大的努力。
