Lacquer panel with shibayama and togidashi decoration, i.e. with mother of pearl, stone and bone inlays, mounted in a metal frame. Signed: Seishi.
The decoration of the front illustrates the story of the Heian court musician Fujiwara no Yasumasu (958-1036) being attacked by a villain, who turns out to be his own brother Midomaru. Captivated by the flute music of Yasumasu, the attempt fails.
