DER TRANSZENDENTE BUDDHA VAIROCANA. Tibet. Ca. 16./17. Jh. Figur: Kupferbronze gegossen, Vergoldung und feine Pigmentbemalung. Sockel in Repoussé, vergoldet. Das gut gestaltete Antlitz zeigt ein feines Lächeln und Reste der detailreichen Bemalung, besonders am linken Auge. Die Hände in Herzhöhe hält der in einer gespiegelten Version der bodyangi mudra, welche die Vereinigung von Gegensätzen symbolisiert. Das kasaya-Gewand ist über die linke Schulter und den Arm sowie vor den Füßen in elegante Falten gelegt. Der Lotosockel ist unterseitig verschlossen. Bei der radiologischen Untersuchung wurde deutlich, dass sich im Sockel kleinere, rundliche Formen befinden, bei denen es sich wohl um Getreide, evtl. um Gerste handelt. Vairocana, der zentrale der fünf großen Tathagata Buddha, gilt als Verkörperung der absoluten Wahrheit und durchstrahlt das Universum. Seine Handhaltung ähnelt der Lehrgeste, weil er auch als großer Lehrer gilt. Höhe 25cm, Breite 14cm, Tiefe 11,5cm. Zustand A/B. Mehrere alte Reparaturen unter der Vergoldung sichtbar. Base in repoussé, gilt copper bronze. The well-proportioned face shows a fine smile and residue of the detailed painting, especially at the left eye. The hands held in front of the heart in a mirrored bodyangi mudra, which symbolizes the unification of opposites. The kasaya garment draped in elegant folds over the left shoulder and arm and in front of his feet. The base closed underneath. In the radiological examination, it became visible that the base is filled with smaller rounded forms, which are probably cereals, possibly barley.Vairocana as the central of the five big Tathagata Buddha symbolizes the absolute wisdom and radiates throughout the whole universe. His mudra resembles the teaching gesture, as he is revered as a great teacher. Height 25cm. Condition A/B. Some older repairs beneath the gilding.
