LOT 332 AN INSCRIBED GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, China, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, dated 1780. Finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base, his right hand in bhumisparshamudra and his left in dhyanamudra, wearing a simple monks habit incised with a geometric band, his face with meditative expression framed by long pendulous earlobes and his hair curled high in tight knots around the usnisa, the reverse with an eleven-line calligraphic inscription: "The bronze was commissioned by Mr. Chen Xuan and is dated to the 20th day of the 6th month of the 45th year of the Qianlong reign." - Provenance: Property from a German private collection, acquired at Sotheby's London, 14 May 2008, Lot 658 - Minor wear to the gilding, esp. to the back of the base
