提要：隗瀛涛，男，1930年4月出生于重庆开县城郊水南桥(今汉丰镇)，中国史学界的泰斗，中国第一个地方史博士点的开创者。毕生致力于历史教学与科研工作，在中国近代史，特别是辛亥革命与保路运动史研究领域成果丰硕，多有创新，连续主持了国家哲学社会科学“七五”、“八五”、“九五”重点课题，发表了一系列在国内外有相当影响的专著和论文。于2007年1月14日21时15分，因病不幸在成都逝世，享年78岁。
