A Very Fine Chinese jade brush washer made in the form of Qilin unicorn. The sculptures head rests on the front right shoulder while the mythical creature remains in a resting posture. Centered on the arch of the cask is a circular opening for which a brush may be dipped into calligraphic ink. Young QiLin effigy suckles at the mothers side. All four legs fit snugly into corresponding grooves located on the hand-carved hardwood stand, depicting cloud formations. Jadestone is glossy in appearance showing a celadon coloration and cream-white hue. Qilin is known as a mythical unicorn and is generally accepted as being a good omen. Note: Jade, as a stone, has five virtues. Its glossiness and warmth is like benevolence. Because inside and outside is the same, so that knowing the outside one knows the inside, this may be likened to righteousness. Its far-reaching sound (when struck) may be heard from afar, like wisdom. It is not easily bent, but can be broken, which may be likened to courage. Jade can be sharpened, but not to the point where it can injure people; this quality is like self-regulation or restraint.
