Late Period, 664-332 BC or earlier. A carved limestone head wearing the nemes head cloth, D-shaped face with feline features; incised symbols to the underside including the reed, the djed pillar, the desert hare, the letter 't', and other characters; one suggested translation is a reference to the eternal stability of the god Kephri (the morning sun) as it moves across the sky to the west. 9.5 grams, 20mm (3/4"). Property of a Mayfair lady; formerly in an important London collection formed since 1965. Fine condition, chipped.
