Late 4th-early 3rd century BC. A gold ring comprising a D-section shank and broad bezel with tiered upper face and central cell, inset garnet cabochon with intaglio nude hero standing, arms raised to the head, shield resting against the knee and spear resting on the shoulder. Cf. Chadour, A.B. Rings. The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, volume I, Leeds, 1994 for type. 35 grams total, 30mm overall, 19.45mm internal diameter (approximate size British S 1/2, USA 9 1/2, Europe 21.0, Japan 20) (1 1/4"). Property of a Surrey gentleman; acquired 2007 from a private French collector; accompanied by a copy of the purchase invoice for £12,500.00, supplied with geologic report No. TL004945, by geologic consultant Dr R.
