A bronze piriform jug with flared mouth, separately applied flat rim and handle; the decorated handle with raised median band, leaf-shaped thumb-pad, the lower plaque with satyr mask modelled in the half-round, long beard and curved horns; the base with concentric circles. Cf. Rolland, H. Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 291. 905 grams, 28cm (11"). Property of a London gentleman; previously acquired on the UK art market, 1990s. Fine condition.
