4th-6th century AD. A green glass bell-shaped cup with teardrop facets to the body and discoid to the underside and base. Cf. Fukai, S. Persian Glass, New York, 1977, p.29, plates 14-15; according to Fukai, oval facets were usually cut with spaces, unlike circular facets which were cut adjoining one another, for similar bowls dated to the 1st-3rd century AD, one with oval facets and one with circular, cf. Fukai, S. Persian Glass, New York, 1977, plates 6-7. 257 grams, 12cm (4 3/4"). Property of a North London lady; formerly with Christie's, London, 2 April 2014, lot 187; previously gifted from her father's collection; formerly with a Mayfair gallery, London, UK; previously acquired on the German art market in 1988; accompanied by a copy of the Christie's catalogue pages.
