18th century AD. A tapering jade leaf-shaped plaque with ribbed suspension loop, gilt floral detailing with thirty-three inset shallow-cut diamonds. 33 grams, 72mm (2 3/4"). From the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman; formerly acquired in the 1980s, supplied with geologic report No. TL005183, by geologic consultant Dr R. L. Bonewitz. The gems are set using the kundan technique, typical of similar Indian ornamented jade objects of the period. Dr Ron Bonewitz notes: 'These are always a pleasure to examine in order to admire the high skill of the craftsman.' Fine condition, small old repair.
