1510-1520 AD. A parchment leaf from a Northern French Book of Hours with block of blackletter text to each face; rectangular marginal blocks with acanthus leaf and foliage panels divided obliquely, gold leaf detailing; sloping blackletter hand with blue and red touches, gold leaf versals, red ruled layout lines. 1.97 grams, 16cm (6 1/4"). Ex the property of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool (1907-1908); previously with the Earl of Egmont and Richard Caton (1842-1926); formerly in the John Percival collection (1683-1748"). From the studio of Jean Coene (Master of the Paris Entries"). Coene was a prolific manuscript artist during the early 16th century at the French court under Louis XII and Francis I. His speedy technique and detailed miniatures made him very successful. He collaborated with the studio of Master Jean Pichoire. Fine condition.
