11th-12th century AD. A gilt-bronze crowned Corpus Christi, the ribs and loincloth delineated with low-relief hatching, manacles to the wrists; the crown with median hatched panel, single lobe above, two lateral trefoil lobes; the facial features modelled in the round, engraved and enhanced, eyes rectangular and nose trapezoidal, slit mouth below; affixing holes to hands and below the feet, two rivets remaining; body hollow to the reverse. Cf. Zarnecki, G., Holt, J. & Holland, T. English Romanesque Art 1066-1200, London, 1984, items 236, 237 for similar images of Christ. 38 grams, 11 cm (4 3/8"). From an important collection of Christian artefacts formed in the 1970s and 1980s; formerly found Norfolk, UK, in 1981. Very fine condition. Excessively rare.
