3rd century AD. A silver finger ring comprising a D-section hoop and keeled shoulders, ellipsoid plaque with inset carnelian cloison, intaglio figure (Mars?) standing on a baseline. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 257 for type. 11.31 grams, 31mm overall, 21mm internal diameter (approximate size British W 1/2, USA 11 1/4, Europe 25.97, Japan 25"). (1 1/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Fine condition.
