2nd century AD. A bronze discoid plate brooch with central stud and knop, ring of blue enamel with white pellets and red centres, outer band of millefiori panels; pin and catch to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1039. 6.21 grams, 29mm (1 1/4"). Previously in the Chris Rudd collection, Norfolk, UK; formed since the 1970s. Fine condition.
