2nd century AD. A silver plate brooch of a cicada with detailing to the triangular wings, sprung pin and catch to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989, item 1638 for type. 8.7 grams, 30mm (1 1/4"). From a private collection; formed 1965-1975. Very fine condition.
