A carved wooden figure of Shiva modelled in the round, standing on a rectangular waisted base; the figure with right leg crossed over the weight-bearing left, two hands raised to play a wind instrument (absent) and two more raised in gesture of reassurance; tiered crown with floral panel to the brow above the urna, nimbus to the rear, swags of beads to the neck and body, arm-rings and bracelets, tight-fitting trousers with incised tendril detailing. 6.7 kg, 89cm (35"). Property of a North London gentleman; acquired on the UK art market before 2000. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
