Late 3rd-2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seals including five accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: R-211) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 31 x 30 x 15 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which a loop handle of inverted V-shape is mounted. The design is compartmented and open-work. It consists of a simple cross, supported by two pairs of struts on each arm to the outer rim, giving bush-like impressions. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is generally in very good condition, the outer rim being dented at one point.'; V-848) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 38 x 34 x 25 mm. This has a flat compartmented face, and flat back, in the middle of which a stalk handle is mounted ending in a suspension loop. The shape of the seal is based on the design: a kind of trefoil, and within the spaces between the three arms there are crescent shapes and other filling motifs. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. It is a good example of its type, generally in good condition, though the edges are worn down a little.'; V-12) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 42 x 42 x 14 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a central Greek cross and twelve struts from it --one from each tip on the ends of the arms and one from the centre of the ends --join the cross to a plain outer band divided into twelve segments. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The outer rim is dented a little and the handle is broken, but otherwise the piece is in very good condition and is a nice example of its kind.'; U-68) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 42 x 42 x 14 mm. This is round with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a linear pattern within a plain outer band divided by short struts into four quarters. A simple cross joining the outer band, and curved struts join the simple cross to the outer band also. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The outer rim is a little dented, and the handle is damaged, but the rest is in fair condition, though covered with incrustation.'; C-10) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 30 x 30 x 17 mm. This is round ,open work, with a big loop handle on the back. The face shows an inner circle and six 'spokes' connecting it to the outer circle. The outer edge is decorated with small indentations all around. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition. The little incrustation on it could be removed.' 184 grams total, 25-39mm (1 - 1 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
