One-of-a-kind handwritten "Lynyrd Skynyrd All Time Top Ten" list by Ronnie Van Zant, written in bold pencil on an off-white 8.5 x 14 sheet of Lynyrd Skynyrd stationery during an interview with acclaimed rock journalist Michael Gray on November 15, 1974. Van Zant adds the header, signs below, ÂRonnie Van-Zant, and then runs down a list of his 10 favorite songs, which reads as follows:Â1. Dock of the BayÂOtis Redding / 2. SatisfactionÂRolling Stones / 3. YesterdayÂThe Beatles / 4. WhatÂd I SayÂRay Charles / 5. If We Make It Through DecemberÂMerle Haggard / 6. CanÂt ExplainÂThe Who / 7. Big Boss ManÂJimmy Reed / 8. RespectÂAretha Franklin / 9. Will the Circle Be UnbrokenÂTraditional / 10. Light My FireÂDoors. Van Zant adds a brief handwritten note to the lower right, signing with his initials: ÂPlease note: These are not in any order of preference. The[y] represent the ten most influential songs in my music career. RVZ. This Âtop ten list, as well as Van ZantÂs handwritten comments, were later published in the February 1975 issue of Let It Rock magazine. In fine condition, with light overall toning, a central horizontal fold, and a strip of masking tape along the top back edge. Accompanied by the original February 1975 issue of Let It Rock magazine, as well as a program from Lynyrd SkynyrdÂs 1974 European Tour. In November 1974, Lynyrd Skynyrd arrived in Scotland for their first European tour, supporting Dutch rockers Golden Earring. A UK-based music magazine, ÂLet it Rock, wanted to write a feature about the band and dispatched Gray to report on their first two concert datesÂGlasgow and Edinburgh. As part of his article, Gray asked each band member to write down their Âtop ten songs, hoping to gather a sense of the music and artists that influenced them and informed their musical style. Gray assembled lists from all seven members of Lynyrd Skynyrd on November 15, 1974, prior to the bandÂs show at EdinburghÂs Odeon Theatre as part of their Nuthin' Fancy Tour. Van Zant remains rare and highly sought-after across all signed formats, with this handwritten Âtop ten list far and away the most substantial and significant example of Van ZantÂs handwriting that we have offered for auction. A remarkable rock and roll keepsake detailing the songs that shaped the short musical career of a rock legend.Format: Handwritten List
