(16) British and Dutch Sterling Teaspoons: (6) British Sterling Teaspoons, with Engraved Heraldic Unicorns & Dragons: a) (3) Sterling teaspoons engraved with heraldic unicorn on the handle, (2) are 1801, William Eley & William Fearn and (1) is 1823, unknown maker. Dimensions are: 5 3/8 inches long X 1inch wide at bowl; b) Teaspoon with an engraved dragon in the handle, 1805, possibly Thomas Wilkes Barker, 5 1/2 inches long; c) 1887, John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater, handle engraved with a dragon and serpent, 5 inches long. d) (5) (1) is 1888, (3) are 1877, (1) is 1871, Dutch .833 sterling silver, demitasse spoons with fiddle backs impressed makerÂs mark for W. Helweg. All spoons are monogrammed on the back of the handle: ÂP.P. 12Â. Dimensions are: 4 3/8 inches long. e) Roberts & Belk, 5 ½ inches long. f) (2) c. 1810, Att. John West, London, with engraved dragons on the handles, 5 ¼ inches long. g) c. 1819 spoon, faded maker's marks, 5 ¼ inches long. Dimensions are: largest - 5 1/2 inches long X 1 3/8 inches wide at bowl. All measurements are approximate. Total weight of group: 234.6 g, (7.55 troy oz). All measurements are approximate. Condition: Free of chips, cracks, and repairs. Provenance: These items are part of the Slade family holdings of paintings, sterling silver, and Chinese porcelain (see Oakridge Auction Gallery's March 14th auction, lots. 149 to lot. 155, which was a Chinese blanc de chine Dehua figurine of a robed Bodhidharma or Damo which sold for $416,000USD). The collection was assembled by several members of the family and then by descent to the present owner. The collection was begun by Henry Adolphus Warre Slade (1869 - 1936). He was a British businessman, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1908/09) and the Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation between 1900 and 1902. The collection was added to by his sons, Royal Navy Commander Gerald Gordon Slade, who fought in both World Wars, and his brother Maurice Gordon Slade, pictured with his mother Beatrice Slade (photo not included).
