Alfonso Vila Shum Oil on Board Abstract Nude Study: Alfonso Vila Shum (Spanish, 1897-1967), oil on board depicting an abstract reclining nude figure, signed on the face by the artist. Dimensions are: image - 11 1/4 inches high X 20 inches wide, overall - 17 1/2 inches high X 26 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Alfonso Vila Shum (Spanish, 1897-1967) was known for his subjective color and expressionistic brush-strokes. The artist's given name was Juan Acher Baptist. He was born in Lerida, Spain in 1897, eventually moved to Barcelona and from there to Paris, where he illustrated works for magazines, which included, Henri Barbusse's, 'Monde'. In 1920, he was condemned to death for political crimes. He lived and exhibited in in Santa Domingo, eventually moving to Mexico and eventually passing in Cuernavaca in 1967. Condition: Free of chips, cracks, and repairs Provenance: From a second generation collection of fine and decorative art.
