A large bronze ring with D-section hoop, expanding angled shoulders with scroll motifs, raised bezel with engraved intaglio image of a galley with oars in the water, recurved sternpost and rudder below, the bow formed as beast facing back; four helmetted soldiers on the deck, holding long spears and shields. 18.28 grams, 31.27mm overall, 17.94x21.26mm internal diameter, (approximate size, British Q, USA 8, Europe 17.49, Japan 16) (1 1/4"). Property of a South London collector; previously acquired on the European art market 1970-1980.
