是书由近代著名的摄影大师布尔克利（Captain F. Brinkley）主编，分12卷编纂，其中1-8为日本卷，9-12为中国卷。是书书顶刷金，书口、书底为英国手工毛边纸所制。此组书籍应为作者限量精装本，一般不公开对外销售，只用于馈赠亲友。这部影集出版于中日甲午战争之后，时正值中日大变革时期，内收录有关民俗风情、古代美术、名胜古迹、政治军事、晚清社会等手工上色及黑白老照片数百幅。印制精美、保存较好。
