Set of two lacquer boxes: a large document box (ryōshibako) and a writing box (suzuribako). Both decorated with a similar design : a cock and a hen and some herbs as dandelions (tanpopo) and Shepherd’s purse (nazuna) in raised gold takamakie-lacquer with some red. The inside of both lids depict a few herbs in various shades of raised gold and silver takamakie-lacquer on a sprinkled gold ground. The ryōshibako has an extra tray decorated with dandelions, primula (sakurasō) and common horsetail (sugina). The inside of both boxes is in sprinkled gold (nashiji)-lacquer. The writing box has a separate tray with an inkstone and a round copper waterdropper. Each box has its own store-box.Ryōshibako: L. : 41 cm; W. : 32,2 cm; H. : 13,3 cm.
