Chinese 19/20 Century 4-Panel Incised Bamboo Skin Screen inlaid with 8 separate panels as tribute gifts to Mr. Foster carved with Figures, Birds, Flowers and Calligraphy with bands of key-fret "Wan" patterns top and bottom, and set into 4 hinged jichimu veneered panels with further inlay; the reverse in plain painted wood. Age related wear and shrinkage cracks to wood panels and inlays, small minor pieces of inlay missing, hinges weak. Height of each panel 35 inches (89 cm.) X width of each panel 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm.). PROVENENCE: Brought back from early 20 century China by the missionary couple working in Guangdong Province, Clarence Lucius Foster (1878-1955) and Ruth Bailhache Smith Foster (1886-1972), and gifted within the immediate family.
