CELADON SHALLOW DISH, SONG DYNASTY, the gently rounded body with an everted rim, the centre carved with a goose in flight surrounded by a foliate band, under an olive-green glaze, 27.2cm diameter Provenance: Christie's, 19th April 1983, lot 261. Exhibited: Iron in the Fire, Ashmolean Museum 1988, no.40, described as Fujian or possibly Longquan. Note: for simliar examples see - Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society Vol.37 1967-69, p.23 (J.M.Addis); Mayuyama Seventy Years, Vol. 1, Tokyo 1976, no.331. Also of note are sherds in Sekai Toji Zenshu, Vol.9, by Koyama et al, 1955, fig 18(i); and shards found at Fostat and discussed in a 1975 OCS lecture.
