YELLOW-GLAZED GREEN-ENAMELLED 'EIGHT BOYS' BOWL, YONGZHENG SIX CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD, of gently-rounded form with an everted lip and short cylindrical foot, the interior left plain yellow, the exterior incised and boldly enamelled in vibrant green against the yellow ground, showing eight boys dancing and playing with musical instruments on a garden terrace, all between a foliate rim band above and a lappet band below, 15cm diam Provenance: Dunt King, Hong Kong, 1962. Note: although most commonly found during the Yongzheng reign, bowls of this design originated in the Ming Dynasty and examples from the Jiajing reign are known, such as one illustrated in Ayers, J., The Baur Collection, vol.2, Geneva, 1969, pl.A166.
