OKIMONO OF AN ELDERLY GENTLEMAN WITH THREE BOYS. Japan. Meiji period (1868-1912). Master of the Tôkyô School. Ivory, very finely adn detailed carved. Leading a son by the hand, carrying the youngest on the other arm, while the eldest of the three boys grabs his father's right sleeve. The two older children, each with an apple in his hand. The youngest eagerly looking down from above at the apple his older brother is offering him.The scene is very lively due to a highly realistic representation of the figures. Their faces are expressive and masterfully designed. Small details like the sagemono on the father's and two of the children's belt are exquisitely carved. Unmistakably the okimono comes from the master hand of a carver of the Tôkyô School. Height 17cm. Sign.: Hiroko. Condition A/B. Einen Sohn an der Hand führend, den jüngsten auf dem anderen Arm tragend während der älteste der drei Knaben sich am rechten Ärmel des Vaters festhält. Die beiden älteren Kinder mit je einem Apfel in der Hand. Der Kleinste begierig von oben hinabschauend auf den Apfel, den ihm sein älterer Bruder hinhält.Die Szene wirkt sehr lebendig durch eine überaus realistische Darstellung der Figuren. Ihre Gesichter sind ausdrucksstark und meisterlich gestaltet. Kleine Details wie die sagemono am Gürtel des Vaters und zwei der Kinder sind exquisit geschnitzt. Unverkennbar stammt das okimono aus der Meisterhand eines Schnitzers der Tôkyô-Schule. Höhe 17cm. Sign.: Hiroko. Zustand A/B.
