Late 2nd century AD. A mount bust of the Empress Faustina Minor, wife of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, represented from the neck to the chest, so that it could be attached to a flat background using the visible rivet holes, perhaps it is the middle piece of a bronze plate, where the imperial couple was represented. See Beutler F., Farka C, Gugl C., Humer F., Kremer G., Polhammer E. (ed.), Der Adler Roms, Carnuntum und die Armee der Caesaren, Bad Voslau, 2017, p.169, n.20 for the correspondent portrait of Marcus Aurelius. 51 grams, 59mm (2 1/4"). Private collection, home counties, UK; acquired before 1980. [No Reserve]
