A bronze plate brooch in the form of an advancing gladiator of murmillo type, the bulbous helmet covering the face, short tunic to knees and right hand holding sword across chest; pin and catch to the reverse. Cf. Heynowski, R. Bestimmungsbuch Archaeologie: Fibeln, Munich, 2012, item 3.27.5 for type. 18.4 grams, 50mm (2"). From a North West London collection; previously acquired in the 1980s.
