Description
Translation provided by Youdao
This is a thermoplastic union case with a daguerreotype of a gentleman wearing a fancy tie. The daguerreotype is a sixth plate, and the embossed covers feature an infant in an apple tree, holding a stein in one hand and a scythe in the other, and Krainik describes this as a fantasy or dreamscape. (Krainik 138, The Farmer's Dream). The ruby velvet lining is smooth to the touch, but there is a small nick by the clasp and the clasp has been clipped and won’t close properly, so it needs to be replaced. The case was made by Critchlow in the 1850’s and measures 3 13/16 x 3 1/2 in. wide.
