Description
Translation provided by Youdao
This is a thermoplastic union case with two ambrotypes of a couple who are likely husband and wife. The ambrotypes are quarter plates and hand-tinted. The embossed covers depict Sir Roger deCoverly and the Gypsies, and the motif is repeated on front and back (Krainik 30). The two clasps are snug and the corners are sharp, and the case was made by Critchlow in the 1850’s and measures 3 15/16 x 4 7/8 in. wide.
