BUDDHA Bronze rest gilt Tibet or Nepal , 15th century Dimensions: Height 11 cm Weight: 606 grams Buddha seated in lotus pose on a rectangular throne. In the front centr of the throne is a vajra symbolizing the indestructibility of a diamond and the force of a thunder at the same time. The Buddha is gesturing the varada mudra with one hand, gesture of dispensing boons. The other hand is probably gesturing the apana mudra of cleansing. The eyes are downcast and the lips and nose small, the face is well rounded. Elongated earlobes frame the face and small curls cover the head and ushnisha.
