Description
Translation provided by Youdao
1st century BC-early 1st century AD. A substantial cast irregular ingot with 9.7% gold by XRF, probably melted down to create a monetised piece of bullion for trade. 17.42 grams, 22mm (1"). Property of a UK gentleman; formerly the property of an Essex, UK, gentleman; acquired from a numismatic fair in the early 2000s; accompanied by an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis table showing the elemental breakdown. Staters were minted in Gaul by Gallic chiefs modelled after those of Philip II of Macedonia, which were brought back after serving in his armies, or those of Alexander and his successors. These went on to influence a range of Celtic staters which generally weighed between 4.5 and 6.5 grams. [No Reserve]
