A large, impressive Viking silver pin with dragon heads and masks, 9th - 11th century Beautiful silver robe pin. The needle, rectangular in cross-section, is crowned by a plate richly decorated on the front, showing four dragon heads and their intertwined bodies. At the top also three small stylised animal heads. The silversmith found an impressive solution for the transition from the needle to the plate: the needle merges into a dragon head, which carries the plate in its mouth. Length 20 cm. Weight 78.9 g. Provenance: From an old German collection. Condition: II Condition Report: Cast, hammered and chased. One eyelet on the back at the upper end. Excellent condition. A comparable fragment in the Historiska museet in Sweden. Condition: II Große wikingische Gewandnadel mit Drachenkopfverzierung, 9. - 11. Jhdt. Eindrucksvolle silberne Gewandnadel. Die im Querschnitt rechteckige Nadel wird bekrönt von einer auf der Vorderseite reich dekorierten Platte, die vier Drachenköpfe und deren ineinander verschlungene Körper zeigt. Oben zudem drei kleine stilisierte Tierköpfe. Eine eindrucksvolle Lösung fand der Silberschmied für den Übergang von der Nadel zur Platte: die Nadel geht in einen Drachenkopf über, der im Maul die Platte trägt. Hervorragender Zustand. Intakt.
