31st-30th century BC. A serpentine cylinder seal, pierced vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'The design is a frieze of three walking quadrupeds. The seal is in the Sumerian Jemdet Nasr style, c. 3000 B.C., and comes from Mesopotamia or south-west Iran. The seal is very worn but because the design was deeply cut, it is still clear to see.' 8.89 grams, 16mm (1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number W-117; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
