11th-8th century BC. A brown limestone cylinder seal, pierced vertically for suspension on copper-alloy wire, which remains in part; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'In the centre is a winged solar disc above a stylised sacred tree, To each side stands a genie, in human form but with a bird's head and wings. They wear short kilts with two tassels falling between their legs. They are raising one hand and hold a bucket in the other. A rhomb and a triangle fill vacant spots in the design, and a star in the sky with stylus symbol underneath serve as a terminal. This is a north Syrian seal, c. 1000-800 B.C., and has the original bronze pin still in the hole. It is an unusual type, but is damaged and scraped out vigorously.' 16.6 grams, 39mm (1 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 37; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
