A mixed group of cylinder seals, jasper (3), faience (1), drilled vertically for suspension; each accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Seal of black stone. The design consists of two rows of dots in circles, with further supporting strokes, the whole forming a frieze. This comes from Syria and dates to c.3000-2700 B.C. The metal pin remains in the hole, broken off at each end. The seal is very worn. (T-302)'; 'Seal of faience. The design shows two rearing, crossing horned animals, and a large stylised sacred tree. This is a Mitanni seal, from anywhere between the eastern Mediterranean and Kurdistan. The surface is badly worn, but enough remains to see the design. The seal dates to c.1300-1100 B.C. (T-979)'; 'Seal of black stone. A presentation scene is shown. On the right side sits a god in long flounced robe, raising one hand. Facing him are two standing figures, first a deity in long plain robe gripping the wrist of a human worshipper behind, who is raising one hand. A terminal is created by a lion-headed standard, and there is a lunar crescent in the sky. This is an Old Babylonian seal from Mesopotamia, c.1900-1700 B.C. It is worn, but the design can still be seen. There is a little damage to the upper edge. (R-788)'; 'Seal of black stone. The design, which is put between upper and lower rulings, shows an archer on one knee aiming his bow. He wears a tunic and short kilt, has a quiver showing over his shoulder and has facial details briefly stated. The bow is aimed at a horned quadruped, falling on front paws and turning its head backwards. There is a branch or bush between archer and prey, and a star above the back of the animal. This is a Neo-Assyrian seal in the so-called linear style. It is nicely engraved and in very good condition save for the loss of a piece which has been removed from the archer's front leg.
