2300-2200 BC. A jasper cylinder seal with a contest scene; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Grey/Brown Stone, 22 x 13 mm. A contest scene with two groups is shown. In the one the hero with flat cap is succouring a horned animal that is being attacked by a lion. In the other a bull-man is grappling with a lion. This is an Akkadian seal, c. 2300-2200 B.C., from Mesopotamia or south-west Iran. It is nicely engraved.' 6.9 grams, 22mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s, item number 1915; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
