Eocene Age, 58 million years BP. A large Priscicareliops fossil fish in a matrix. 1.3 kg, 30.5cm (12"). From the Pradi collection, Boston, USA; acquired during the 1980s. Priscicareliops is an extinct genus of perch and is characterised by a sunfish-like body and its stout dorsal and anal spines. The fish is best known from the Green River Shales of Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. Mass deaths of Priscacara suggest it formed schools.
