He abandons his studies to devote himself to painting and is among the frequenters of the "third room" of Caffè Aragno. In 1925 he moved to Paris, as a guest of Filippo de Pisis, and became friends with Giorgio de Chirico and Gregorio Sciltian. In 1927 he approaches the group "Les Italiens de Paris" (de Chirico, Severini, Campigli, de Pisis, Savinio, Paresce, Tozzi) participating in some exhibitions, among which the 1930 Venice Biennale stands out.In 1931 he returns to Italy, moving between Rome, Florence, Genoa and Puglia, where he is active as an exhibition organizer, promoting the renewal of that cultural environment.
