An evocative and substantial sandstone carving of a group of three beast-headed demons crouched together, each with a human body and limbs surmounted by a dog-like head with pronounced ears, deep-set eyes, lolling tongue and elongated nose; the figure to left as viewed apparently feeding the centre demon and the one to the right holding a bone; of French workmanship. 48.6 kg, 50cm (19 3/4"). Ex central London gallery; previously with Piasa, Paris, France, 17 December 2015, lot 40; accompanied by a scholarly note TL5361 by Dr Ronald Bonewitz; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no. 10500-170739.[No Reserve]
